Washington extends Huawei's exemptions

The US government has extended the exemptions granted to the Chinese telecom giant Huawei allowing it to buy from US companies essential equipment to continue to provide its customers, said Monday the US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross. The temporary authorization, which was due to expire on Monday, is extended by 90 days, he told Fox Business Network.

Wilbur Ross also announced the addition of 46 subsidiaries of Huawei on a blacklist, called “List of entities”, forcing them to request a waiver to buy parts and electronic components to US firms.

In May, the US administration reversed some of the restrictions imposed on the Chinese giant, a few days after the signing of a decree prohibiting US companies to use telecommunications equipment manufactured by companies posing a risk to safety a measure aimed particularly at Huawei.
